Google has launched two new flagship 4G smartphones, the Google Nexus 6P and the Google Nexus 5X, to showcase the new version of the Android mobile operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The two new phones are made by LG and Huawei and will both be available this month, with the Nexus 5X released on 16th October and the Nexus 6P released on 26th October. Both handsets will run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and will feature the new Nexus 12.3 megapixel camera and fingerprint scanner as well as Google’s personal assistant, Now on Tap. So what other features are included with these new flagship devices?
The Google Nexus 5X
The Nexus 5X, made by LG, is a premium lightweight handset with a 5.2 inch display and 423 pixels per inch. It has Corning’s Gorilla Glass for extra protection, is available in 16GB or 32GB versions, and contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor. The handset cost is likely to start from £339 for the 16GB model.
The Google Nexus 6P
The Nexus 6P, made by Huawei, is a higher spec smartphone with a 5.7 inch 2K AMOLED display and 518 pixels per inch, protected by Gorilla Glass 4. Available in black, silver, or white, the handset contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octo-core processor and 3GB of RAM. Customer can choose 32 GB, 64 GB or 128GB of storage, with prices starting from £449 for 32 GB.
According to Andrei Popescu, an engineering director within Google’s Android team, “The Nexus devices are our idea of embodiment of the perfect Android device – a platform for application developers to show off the new features of Marshmallow and show what Android can do.”
Nexus 6P and 5X available from EE
Both the handsets will be available from EE, and can be pre-ordered from today, 9th October. Example price plans for the Nexus 6P include an upfront cost of £9.99 and £41.99 per month for unlimited voice minutes and texts and 2GB 4G data, or an upfront cost of £9.99 and £54.99 per month for unlimited voice minutes and texts and 20GB 4G data including EU roaming. Example plans for the Nexus 5X include an upfront cost of £5.99 and £34.99 per month for 1000 voice minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB 4G data including EU roaming, or no upfront cost and £46.99 per month for unlimited voice minutes and texts and 10GB 4G data.
Along with the new handsets EE customers will also receive a free three-month trial of Google’s music streaming subscription service, Google Play. This includes over 30 million songs and mood-based playlists.
