Vodafone Introduces the 4G Smart Ultra 6

Vodafone has released the latest in its range of own-brand devices – the Smart Ultra 6 with 4G – which is expected to rival own-brand devices from rival 4G networks such as EE’s Harrier.

Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 4G Phone

The philosophy behind Vodafone’s own-brand devices is to enable customers to access high spec mobile technology at affordable prices. With its previous smartphone – the Smart Prime 6 – Vodafone aimed to provide a powerful 4G smartphone for under £100. The emphasis has changed slightly in creating the Smart Ultra 6 as Vodafone has tried to design the best possible smartphone, while still keeping the value for money element.

So what does the Smart Ultra 6 cost?

For a relatively high spec 4G smartphone the Smart Ultra 6 is very affordable at just £125 on pay as you go. It is available for free on a variety of 24 month 4G price plans including:

  • £41 per month for unlimited minutes and texts and 15GB 4G data
  • £31 per month for unlimited minutes and texts and 6GB 4G data
  • £26 per month for unlimited minutes and texts and 2GB 4G data
  • £17 per month for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB 4G data

Customers that buy the Smart Ultra 6 with a Vodafone Big Value Bundle will benefit from six months’ free access to Spotify Premium, Sky Sports Mobile TV, or Now TV Entertainment, allowing them to make the most of their 4G handset.

Tech specs for the Smart Ultra 6

So what do you get for £125? Well the Smart Ultra 6 has a modern, minimalist, industrial design with a metallic feel and thin bezel around the display, giving it the appearance of a premium device. Measuring 154 x 77 x 8.35 mm the device weighs just 159g. The 5.5 inch full HD screen has a pixel density of 400ppi which is the same as the iPhone 6. Other technical specifications of the Smart Ultra 6 include:

  • 3000mAh battery
  • 13 Megapixel Sony auto-focus rear camera
  • 5 Megapixel selfie camera
  • Android 5.1 operating system
  • Qualcomm MSM8939 OctaCore processor
  • 16GB internal memory and Micro SD slot

According to Peter Becker-Pennrich, Vodafone’s Product Management Director, “The aim for the Smart ultra 6 was to build the best phone we possibly could, whilst maintaining that emphasis on value for money. Think of building a mobile device like building a car. Let’s say you’re buying a Mercedes. Most of the individual parts of the car – the tires, electronics, sound system and other parts – aren’t built by Mercedes, they’re built by specialists. It’s the same story for mobile devices – specialist companies build all the individual components. That’s how we’ve put together the Smart ultra 6 – we’ve taken some of the most advanced technology in the world and built it into a package that we think is incredibly powerful – in every area. We haven’t made any compromises here; this is absolutely the most powerful smartphone we’ve ever built.”

The Smart Ultra 6 is currently available from Vodafone stores in the anthracite variant, with an additional silver variant launching in July.
