EE Launches Wearable 4G Camera

EE has released the world’s first wearable 4G camera, which is known as the 4GEE Capture Cam. The device, which is part of a growing range of 4G devices launched by EE as it embraces the Internet of Things, is available immediately for both consumers and small businesses, and makes an ideal Christmas gift.

4G Wearable Camera

The 4GEE Capture Cam is a lightweight camera at just 90g, and can be fastened to clothing or a bag, or attached to a variety of mounts including a helmet mount, chest mount, head strap, or bike mount. It allows users to broadcast their everyday lives or special events in high definition video live over the EE 4G network. Consumers can stream birthday parties, weddings, their local parkrun, or any other event to friends and family online. Small businesses can also make use of the 4GEE Capture Cam to stream live events to their customers, partners, or suppliers.

The 8MP camera on the 4GEE Capture Cam can take both still images and video, and can work with a variety of resolutions and frame rates. There is 4GB of internal memory included but an external memory card will enable this to be expanded up to 64GB.

Users of the 4GEE Capture Cam will be able to broadcast their videos live via Skeegle, a 4G optimised, free, private live-streaming service. Users will have access to three main services via Skeegle. Broadcast allows them to stream live videos directly from the camera. Groups allows users to manage the contacts that they share their videos with. Catch Up is an individual programme guide that holds all the streams and videos shared with a user. To sign up to Skeegle users need a device with the Skeegle app installed, a Facebook account, and a UK mobile phone number.

The wearable camera works with the user’s smartphone via a companion app. The smartphone screen acts at the camera’s viewfinder and all camera functions can be controlled from the phone. The companion app, which is available for both iOS and Android, can be used to alter the settings of the camera, download and share videos, check data use, purchase data bundles, and manage picture and video files.

According to Chris Traggio, Director of Connected Products at EE “We’ve designed the 4GEE Capture Cam to be lightweight and wearable, making it effortless to carry around with you wherever you go. Whether you’re streaming a family member or friend’s wedding, or a property viewing for a customer, EE has the innovative products and 4G network to keep you connected.”

The 4GEE Capture Cam will be available on a range of Pay Monthly, Pay As You Go, and Small Business plans. As a guide Pay As You Go customers can buy the camera for £129.99 with 2GB data or £199.99 with 24BG data. On Pay Monthly plans customers can expect to pay £15 per month which includes 2GB data. Existing EE customers can add the camera to a shared plan for £10 per month.

The 4GEE Capture Cam follows the release of the 4GEE Action Cam earlier in the year, and is compatible with Action Cam accessories. There are likely to be more 4G cameras released by EE next year. There will be a number of accessories available specifically for the 4GEE Capture Cam in the New Year including a lanyard, a waterproof case, and a universal mounting adaptor.
